Bottom of the Hill Video from 1998
Posted by Delfina

Thanks to Ros (shadowiegirl on GDC), who did the time consuming job of editing and converting the files, here’s a good quality copy of Green Day’s concert from April 17, 1998, at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, which was broadcast live on MTV on a series called Live at the 10 Spot.

I had taped this show off the TV when it first aired, and I’ve held onto this old VHS tape for all those years. It had actually gotten moldy from the years it spent sitting in a humid garage in Houston. Anyway, I was able to transfer it to DVD, and then I sent the DVD files to Ros, who made them into the loveliness that is now here.

Because it was shown on MTV, it’s professionally shot, which is nice, but, unfortunately, it’s censored — and pretty clumsily too — which is not so nice. But it’s a good show. It includes Redundant played by Billie Joe alone on guitar (because Mike hurt his nose pretty badly and had to take a short break), part of Joni Mitchell’s Big Yellow Taxi, Disappearing Boy with a kid from the audience playing guitar, and an adorably cute tidbit where Billie Joe forgets the words to Brain Stew and starts laughing.

These are avi files. They will play in the DivX or VLC players. The VLC player is great, and I recommend it if you don’t have it. It will play almost anything. Plus you can take screenshots just by right-clicking and clicking “Snapshot.” (These videos won’t work in Windows Media Player, unless you have the right codec.)

Megaupload download links: Part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5.
