NME on AP’s Interview with Billie Joe
Posted by Delfina

~NME posted a piece about AP’s online interview with Billie Joe about the new album. In it, NME says that Green Day is hinting at a “power-pop direction” for the album, and this, uh, “insight” has been picked up as news by dozens of other music sites. Have none of these music writers ever noticed that Green Day has always played power pop? Whenever a band plays pop punk but expands on it, breaking out of the stricter tradition of punk rock, their music can accurately be described as power pop. This is not news! NME also says, incorrectly, that Billie Joe “did not reveal song titles or details of the songs they are currently working on in the studio,” when the full AP article, which is posted in a place as prominent as GreenDay.com, available to anyone who cares to look, actually gives the very info that NME says was not revealed. Ah well, NME are the same guys who thought that the Tubs partied with Sting! [Update, Dec. 5: GreenDay.com seems to have removed the mag scans now.]
