Geekstinkbreath posted a set of pics of Green Day playing at “Take Back San Francisco,” an anti-gentrification rally and free show held in 2000. The photos are kind of blurry, but they have a nice, casual feels-like-you-were-there look to them, and the lighting at dusk is a cool combination of electric lights and natural light. I kind of like them. It’s also nice to be reminded of yet another good cause the guys of Green Day lent their support to. See all the photos, and descriptions of the event, here.

I wasn’t going to make a special post because the event and Billie Joe’s presence there have been talked about a lot, and what else is there to say? (Links to some of the news and pictures of the event are in the sidebar.) But I couldn’t resist the little bearded man…
Here’s a great picture, large, and with no watermarks. Sigh!
And here’s a couple more tidbits:
From New York Magazine (there’s a picture there too):
How did you meet Bono? “He invited me to his hotel room, and we taught each other dance moves. We were doing an Irish jig and break dancing at the same time.” —Billie Joe Armstrong
From Bloomberg (the event was set to raise $1.5 million):
Tickets for dinner and the show, which benefits the Brooklyn-based group, range from $100,000 for a table for 10 to $5,000 for individuals. Seats in the balcony upstairs in the hall for a pre-concert cocktail party and the show are $1,000.

Mike Goodness: His Birdhouse, Cat, and Old House |

Thirdbeatred has uncovered a nice little assortment of articles about the amazing Mike Dirnt:
– He’s making a birdhouse to auction off for charity. “Some super-snazzy birdie abodes will be auctioned off to benefit Piedmont schools…. Mike Dirnt, bassist for the band Green Day, is creating a birdhouse for the auction. Last year, band member Tre Cool made a birdhouse and threw in an autographed CD for good measure. The item raised the highest bid in last year’s auction — a cool $2,000.”
– There’s a nice lady who takes care of his cat while he’s on tour who was bowled over by Green Day’s stage show: “I was drawn into this vortex of energy, agility, and taunting fun. ‘I’ve been saved,’ I yelled to my nieces.” [ Pdf, scroll down to page 4 — or view as image. ]
– And a realtor showcase has pictures of his former home, which is spacious but understated.
